Covered Entity: Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems
Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems, (CE), reported that on May 8, 2024, it discovered that a provider affiliated with Rural Spine, LLC, a business associate, impermissibly transferred a document containing the protected health information (PHI) of patients to the provider’s practice without a business need. The PHI involved demographic, clinical, financial and treatment information for 33,279 individuals. In response to the incident, the CE implemented additional technical safeguards. OCR provided technical assistance to the CE regarding the HIPAA Rules.
