Medi-Rents & Sales, Inc.

The covered entity (CE), Medi-Rents & Sales, Inc., reported that a phishing cyber-attack resulted in its email environment containing protected health information (PHI) being accessed by an unauthorized threat actor. According to the breach report, the breach affected approximately 1,524 individuals. The PHI involved names, dates of birth, and treatment information. The CE notified HHS, the media, and the affected individuals. In its mitigation efforts, the CE retrained its workforce and adopted encryption technologies to prevent a reoccurrence. OCR provided technical assistance to the CE regarding the HIPAA Rules.
