CVE-2024-4577Argument Injection in PHP-CGI
Updated under an hour ago ()
Does this affect you?
It affects PHP Group PHP and 2 other products. Add what you run to find out whether that includes you.
CISA lists it as known exploited since Jun 12, 2024; federal agencies had to remediate by Jul 3, 2024, and it is known to be used in ransomware. Treat that date as your deadline.
In PHP versions 8.1.* before 8.1.29, 8.2.* before 8.2.20, 8.3.* before 8.3.8, when using Apache and PHP-CGI on Windows, if the system is set up to use certain code pages, Windows may use "Best-Fit" behavior to replace characters in command line given to Win32 API functions. PHP CGI module may misinterpret those characters as PHP options, which may allow a malicious user to pass options to PHP binary being run, and thus reveal the source code of scripts, run arbitrary PHP code on the server, etc.
Added to CISA KEV Jun 12, 2024; federal remediation due Jul 3, 2024; known ransomware useApply mitigations per vendor instructions or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.
The CVE record is authoritative. Products marked “from the name” were identified from the CNA's free-text names, not a CPE, and are matched less certainly. This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.
